I’m guessing I’m the only person here who has driven several of these, like the Solara and the Bluecar. And the Volvo 66 and the Renault 12. And the Rover 213. And the diesel Corolla. And a 2 litre diesel Focus with a DCT. And a Fiat 500 Dualogic.

Some going away points: no V8s. No 5 speed automatics. No VWs. Five different AMTs.

Have a Rover 213.

I’m interested in the Olds I4, and why you drove so many of the soul sapping Micras. Also, what’s a MK1 Escort like to drive with an auto? I’m assuming 1300cc?

You sure like your three speed autos.

I can’t remember all the details of all the cars I’ve driven. My mom’s Altima, for example, I don’t remember the year.

The Micras are my mother’s (automatic) and sister’s (manual).

The Escort was a 1300 with a Borg Warner three speed, also my mother’s. It was the slowest and thirstiest Escort known to man.

The Oldsmobile was a standard hire car, 2.4 engine and four speed automatic. Google tells me it was an Achieva. the most boring hire car ever made, except for most other hire cars.

You owned all of these or just had a chance to drive them? That’s a hell of a list if you owned them all.

In therms of ownership my list is all over the map: 1971 Cadillac El Dorado, a terrible Saturn SC2 (the one with the idiotic suicide door on the wrong side), 2001 Chrysler Town & County, 1988 Acura Integra, Chrysler Crossfire (this was my father’s but I drove it a ton), and then I finally came to my senses and bought an NA Miata.

How did you like the old E30's? And how much of a boat was the chrysler 300?

I’ve only owned five of them! The rest were family, hire cars or borrowed.

The BMWs (I owned the 320i) were fine although fairly keen on fuel. My one was sluggish off the line due to a fault which nobody ever got to the bottom of. It also resisted the tinworm well, something you appreciate in a damp climate.

The 300 (it had a 3.7 engine or so they said) was a barge with less go than my 2.0 FTO. Surprisingly economical though. I got it as a free upgrade, Chrysler were pushing them at the time.
